graystone road take #2

A returning client approached ark once again after outgrowing the first home [graystone road] we had previously extended and renovated for them. Now moving to the house directly opposite, they were eager to create another thoughtfully designed space that could evolve with their growing family and reflect the way they live today.

To support their need for more generous family accommodation, Ark designed a new side extension that introduced two additional bedrooms and an adjoining play area for their children. This dedicated wing offers space for independence and imagination while remaining closely connected to the heart of the home, creating a practical and joyful environment for the siblings to grow.

At the rear, a further extension was developed to provide a spacious, open-plan arrangement that now houses the main living area, a contemporary kitchen, a generous dining zone, and a discreet utility space. This addition forms the social core of the home. Bright, flexible, and designed to encourage effortless family living, while opening the house to the garden and drawing natural light deep into the interior.

Ark was invited to reimagine the new property with a fresh architectural vision, one that built upon the success of our earlier collaboration while responding to the character and constraints of this new home. The brief focused on delivering a refined extension and a comprehensive refurbishment that would open up the internal layout, improve natural light, and create a greater sense of connection between key living spaces.

Drawing on our established relationship with the client, we were able to move quickly into meaningful design conversations, developing solutions that balanced practicality with an elevated sense of craft and comfort. The result is a renewed home that feels familiar yet distinctly enhanced and tailored to the family’s needs, ready for the next chapter.
